After the off-season carnival and one step away from the June festivals, Brazilians gather next Sunday (5/8) to celebrate Mother’s Day. The date is full of love and meaning for those who have a mother or keep the memory of those who have passed away. But also for those who are mothers and have one or more reasons to live.

House of Manju

The house, which recently opened a branch in Seilandia, has created an exclusive recipe for Mother’s Day. Only on Sunday (08.05) visitors will be able to taste the rice with angus ribs (99.90 reais for two), which includes coullo cheese and vegetables. But the seafood-focused restaurant also offers recipes such as traditional bobo shrimp (R$69.90 for two; R$139.90 for four), served with white rice and homemade crispy farofa; and seafood paella (R$ 99.90 for two; R$ 179.90 for four).

Five Sports Bar

If mom loves sports, Five is a good option to celebrate her day. The restaurant’s menu includes Família Grael (R$179.90 for four people), which honors sailors with a combination of fried tilapia with shrimp, capers, mushrooms and green grapes. The recipe is accompanied by rice with broccoli and mashed potatoes.

Those who prefer red meat can try Família Minotauro (R$249.90): Grilled filet mignon topped with woody sauce and mushrooms with the same garnish.


With locations in Taguatinga and Aguas Claras, the house will operate a reduced family-friendly menu on Sundays (5/8). Among the options is the flagship of the institution: dried beef steak (229.90 reais for three; 289.90 reais for five). The protein is accompanied by parrillero rice, tropeiro beans, french fries, meatloaf, breaded banana, vinaigrette and sertão butter. Another option is Ancho (R$229.90 for three; R$289.90 for five), which also has the same side dishes.


Those who love traditional northeastern cuisine can choose one of Mangai’s recipes. Options include the Camaão Mar e Sol (R$109 for two; R$175 for four), which has creamy rice with cream, charcoal cheese, shrimp, and shredded jerky, all breaded with charcoal cheese. The house also has a fish moqueca (184 reais) served with white rice, porridge and farofa made from local butter and palm oil.

Those who like snacks or want to add other side dishes to the dish can rely on homemade plates. The menu includes dried meat (119 reais), fried cassava, coullo cheese and farofa; and dried shrimp (R$149) paired with fried cassava, ugolho cheese, onion and farofa.

With a menu signed by former chef Nayane Barreto, the space offers options for those who will be celebrating Mother’s Day in Sobradinho and the region. Smaller families can sample Ancho Angus (R$144 for 400g and two side dishes) and choose side dishes that include roasted vegetables, tropeiro beans, vinaigrette and potato mayonnaise.

Those who want variety can combine family meals served for two. The list includes termites and bacon escondidinho (R$95) accompanied by white rice with fried garlic and lettuce; and Filet Mignon with Parmesan (R$118), also served with French fries.

Olinda Northeast food

As for regional dishes, the establishment offers a full solarium (127 reais for two and 158 reais for four). The protein is served with traditional side dishes: white rice, black-eyed peas, meat api, vinaigrette, parsley and bottled oil. In addition, mothers can choose between boiled or fried cassava or potato chips.

Poor Juan

Mothers who love barbecue and specialties can bet on Pobre Juan for Sunday lunch. Meat dishes include porterhouse (R$284 for four) and tomahawk (R$349 for four), which can be paired with various side dishes such as the classic soufflé porridge (R$34). But the list also includes grilled vegetables (R$34), egg farofa (R$33) and cassava puree (R$37).


Santé 13 and Santé Lago houses have family-friendly meat and side dishes that cater for up to three people. Orders include chorizo ​​(R$240/750g), fried Duroc pork strips (R$134/750g) and Duroc pork rump steak (R$120/750g). As an accompaniment, customers can choose up to four side dishes: biro-biro, white rice or rice with broccoli; mixture of leaves or medium lettuce juliana, potato stick or rustic and egg, banana or garlic farofa.

Savassi Carne de Sol

Those who love regional northeastern cuisine can take a chance on Cangaço Completo (R$169 for four), which serves cured meats, country cheese, creamy baiao de dois, meatloaf, fried cassava and the smell of greens. Another option is Pescaria Savassi (R$180 for four people), made with breaded tilapia, garlic-and-oil prawns, broccoli rice, boiled vegetables, and mashed potatoes.

The menu also includes boneless tambaki (R$139 for four) served with rice, black-eyed peas, mashed potatoes and homemade salad. To close the tip, caipira chicken (199 reais for four people). The recipe is accompanied by rice, a pack of beans, polenta and stewed okra.

Chef Marco Espinoza has created two special recipes for this date. On May 6, 7 and 8, visitors will be able to taste grilled picanha with chimichurri, Grana Padano cheese and mustard sauce, served with potatoes, onions and spinach. Another Mother’s Day request is curry shrimp served with wok rice. Both recipes are for two people and cost 190 reais each.
