Vitória (ES) – Economy Minister Paulo Guedes received the President of the Brazilian Center for Ornamental Stone Exporters (Centrorochas), Tales Machado, and a group of about 30 largest exporters in the country, in an audience virtual Wednesday (4). The meeting took place through the Federal Deputy and the Deputy Leader of the Government in the Chamber, Evair de Melo, and was also attended by the Vice President of the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), Léo de Castro.
At the meeting, Tales Machado briefed Guedes on the progress of the Brazilian stone sector, which broke a historic export record in 2021. Between January and December last year, the national segment earned $ 1.34 billion with the transportation of 2 , 4 million tons of materials to 132 countries on five continents, an increase of 35.5% compared to 2020. Admired by the figures, the minister said that the stone trade is one of the few in which Brazil has a surplus of United States. “We lose a lot by disappointment,” he said cheerfully.
“I think your aggressive performance is spectacular. Before I met Deputy Evair, I did not know the power of this industry. When we talked about making this competition more equitable with the other coverage sectors, I think we were right and now we are moving in a slightly more aggressive direction, which is really trying to reindustrialize Brazil, “added Guedes. , referring to us. to the isonomy tax related to IPI (Tax on Industrialized Products) levied on articles intended for paving or covering, derived from ornamental stones. The decree, of August 23, 2021, defined a unified share of 1% of the IPI charged on these products.
“For 20 years, the Brazilian stone sector has fought for equal treatment between the coverage sectors and has been with the support of MP Evair, who, after constant dialogues with Minister Paulo Guedes and his technical team, supported the Federation of Industries of Espírito Santo (Findes) that I made this achievement. Now we are even happier with the 35% tax cut. We can only thank you for all the support that the Federal Government has given to our segment “, celebrated Tales.
Centrorochas President Tales Machado told Minister Paulo Guedes that although it is a moment of gratitude, he would like to make a request with the certainty that he will have the minister’s understanding and commitment. The request was in favor of overcoming the logistical deadlock of exports faced not only by the rock sector, but also by coffee, pepper, ginger and many other goods produced in the state of Espírito Santo. There are records that a contract has just been closed for the export of 500 containers of one of these products, but they are being transported by road to São Paulo, due to the lack of a firm option in the state.
Tales informed Guedes that each container leaving Espírito Santo depends on cabotage or long-haul transportation, generating high costs and transit time, with a negative impact on the competitiveness of Espírito Santo industries. The Minister asked some questions about the alternatives that are being considered and showed that he will help to seek support for their viability, even asked MP Evair to assess with the affected sectors and indicate, among the existing port alternatives, which should be concentrated . efforts.
Thanks to the Federal Government, represented at the meeting by Minister Paulo Guedes, for understanding the importance of having in its leadership a national entity composed of entrepreneurs in the sector, the sectoral agreement signed by Centrorochas and ApexBrasil, still records an excellent result in actions. After Brazil set a record for ornamental stone exports in 2021, the sector had a strong share in Coverings 2022, the largest and most traditional North American fair in the roofing segment, with the largest area occupied by the Pavilion. Brazil, considered all editions of the fair. .
Between April 5 and 8, seventy-three companies in the sector participated in the Brazilian Pavilion organized by It’s Natural – Brazilian Natural Stone, a sector project to support and develop exports in the sector. “In addition to the success in occupying the space, where we recorded the largest area occupied so far by the Brazilian ornamental stone pavilion, in the four days of the fair, we represented direct business of 32 million USD,” explained Tales.
The ornamental stone trade keeps Brazil united with all continents. The United States is the largest consumer in the national segment. In 2021, the country absorbed 62.7% of all Brazilian exports; At the same time, the US is the main supplier to Brazil. “Last year, we were responsible for sending 23.28% of all the rock consumed there. China was in second place, with about 17%, “said Centrorochas.
“The stone sector adds a lot to the Brazilian trade balance and I am proud to say that Espírito Santo, the state I represent, concentrates about 82% of everything that is exported. This is a very aggressive sector from a commercial and technical point of view, very well prepared “, said the federal deputy Evair de Melo, referring to the over 480,000 direct and indirect jobs generated by the sector in the country.
