Councilor Samonà: “An invitation to families to get closer to art”
“The European Night of Museums in Sicily promotes culture – underlines the Regional Council for Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity, Alberto Samona – and above all invites families to approach art and cultivate beauty. Events such as the European Night and Free Sundays are a powerful incentive to explore our very rich heritage of artworks. Getting closer to the cultural sites, discovering the history of our island and its inhabitants, going to the museum with the children is the best way to get to know Sicily, its identity, its universal dimension. It is the best way to regain awareness of our Sicily, a unique country in the world, despite the many, too many injuries suffered.
How to get to the museums
From the beginning of May, possession of the Green Passport is no longer required for access to state cultural sites, and the use of surgical masks is strongly recommended.
The origin of the event
The event, which has been taking place simultaneously throughout Europe since 2005, is now in its 12th year and includes free evening opening for the European museums participating in the initiative. Traditionally, the event takes place in all signatory countries of the Council of Europe Cultural Convention on the Saturday closest to May 18th.
