Recife hosts “A Noite das Ideias” for the first time

The Cais do Sertão Museum in Recife will be the meeting point for the event, which began in Paris in 2016 and takes place in over 100 cities around the world to discuss the challenges of our time.

A the night of ideas (or La nuit des idées), in less than a decade of existence, has become an event of international importance. Every year, the French Institute invites cultural and educational institutions from France and the five continents to organize a feast of ideas and knowledge. On May 12, the reefs will host the event at the Cais do Sertão Museum in the Recife district, which will include conferences, meetings, forums and round tables, as well as exhibitions, art performances and workshops.

According to the official statement, the theme “(Re) built together” was chosen for the 7th world edition and the 3rd Brazilian edition, due to the urgent need to deepen issues such as resilience and the reconstruction of companies after Covid-19. pandemic, an episode in the history of the world that has not only affected public health and the global economy, but has brought changes in people’s lives in many ways.

Another highlight of the event is the discussion on the environmental problem in Brazil, which in 2019 has broken a deforestation record, according to the National Institute for Space Research (INPE).

The institute points out that the Legal Amazon has lost 11,088 km² of its vegetation cover, the highest rate since 2008. In the face of these unique challenges, Ideas Night brings messages of cooperation and solidarity between individuals, groups and states.

According to the official note, in Brazil, the theme “(Re) build together” it has taken on a local look and brings together Brazilian and French artists, professionals and intellectuals. The Pernambuco edition is coordinated by the Embassy and Consulate General of France and is produced by Proa Cultura, in addition to the support of the Government of Pernambuco, Empetur, Cais do Sertão, Aliança Francesa, Instituto Cervantes, CESAR and Cesar School.

EUROPE MOON in the northeast
This edition of the Night of Ideas is marked by the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union and, in May, the event is part of the month of Northeast Europe. The date is celebrated throughout the region as part of events bringing together European partners to commemorate the history of the European Union and the ties that unite Europeans inside and outside Europe. From May 4, in the cities of Salvador, Fortaleza, Recife, Maceió, Aracaju and João Pessoa, events will take place that include the open gates of the European institutions, in addition to book sales, exhibitions, conferences, a photo contest and a product fair. WORKSHOP – We Can Sing: A Circle of Conversations and Practices – NOW: 18:45 – 19:45
Singer, songwriter, vocal counselor and actor Carlos Ferrera proposes a dialogue and exercises with the participants, starting from the question CAN WE ALL SING? The activity will be divided into 3 parts, which include: Conversation with the audience – in order to open awareness of the possibility of singing and exchanging knowledge and experiences; Practices – with basic notions of vocal work, where participants can understand a little more about the construction of the sung and spoken voice; and Considerations – when the participants and the speaker will be invited to speak or sing something that is very important for the current moment. Intended for the general public.

PRELECTION “The human and creative side of smart cities” – TIME: 20:00 – 21:00
Cláudio Nascimento, Director of Digital Transformation of the Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation of the Government of Pernambuco, presents, through a content exhibition, the novelties of innovation in smart and creative city models. Intended for the general public.

Aurora de Estrelas CHAT – TIME: 21:00 – 22:00
Presentation of the project carried out in partnership with the French Embassy by Coletivo and with the remote participation of the artist Manoel Quitério, addressed to the general public.
